Evolution of Indian Classical Dance

SurTaal

“Sur” is the Hindi word for melody, and “Taal” is the word for a combination of different beats.

While expressed in a traditional Indian dialect, the concepts of rhythm, melody and beat are universal. Similarly, SurTaal's dance style looks internationally to places like Africa, American-Indian tribes, the art of Flamenco and popular Western styles like jazz and modern for inspiration, and then draws on the Indian dance forms of Bharatnatyam, Kathak and folk to merge the dance with our own native styles.

SurTaal is dedicated to preserving the authenticity of Indian Classical dance (mainly Bharatnatyam and Kathak) while creating a seamless, universal fusion between various forms of art and our own Indian traditions.
